HOW TO TREAT YOUR PASTOR

TEXT- 1 TIMOTHY 5:17-25

INTRODUCTION

This morning I am going to continue with my series from the book of First Timothy where we have been learning what the Apostle Paul had to say about the Lord’s church.

Last Sunday we finished studying about the church’s ministry and how it involves those who are widows.

This morning our text is found in 1 Timothy 5:17-25 and the title of my message is, “How to Treat Your Pastor.”

A pastor whose church didn’t like him decided that the lord had called him to another congregation. The day came when he was going to tell his church that he was leaving and announced his resignation by saying, "Brethren, the same Lord who sent me to you is now calling me away." After a moment of silence the song leader directed the congregation to stand and all the people sang, "What a friend we have in Jesus!"

In chapter four Paul described for us in great detail twelve characteristics of a good pastor and what his responsibilities are towards the church.

Here in the closing verse of chapter five he now describes for us seven ways that a church is to treat her pastor.

Due to the risk of sounding self-serving by preaching this message I want to add a disclaimer to my message and point out that these are not my guidelines on how a church is supposed to treat her pastor, but rather they are God’s.

But God has called me to preach his word and it is my responsibility to teach the church what his word says.
